3. MOTHER INDIA ( IMDb Rating : 8.1/10 )

Regarded as one of the most quintessential Bollywood movie , this epic movie helped shaped the path for what is known as Bollywood Blockbusters. This women centric movie of the 1950s ( which is a great thing in itself ) portrays the life of Radha ( played by Nargis ) who then was married to Shamu ( played by Raaj Kumar ) a poor farmer. In order to repay the money they had borrowed from the cunning money lender Sukhilal ( played by Kanhaiya Lal ) Radha had to face a lot of hardships starting from the death of her husband to the death of her infant son, but she always overcame those by keeping her head high and spending her life with her 2 surviving sons Ramu ( played by Rajendra Kumar ) and Birju ( played by Sunil Dutt ). Mother India shows how difficult the life of the poor farmers can be when they are unable to get enough money of their land and how they are cheated and treated by the people from whom they have to borrow money to survive. 1. DO BIGHA ZAMIN ( IMDb Rating : 8.4/10 )

Set in the backgrounds of the post-independence era, this movie revolves around the lives of Shambu ( played by Balraj Sahni ) , his wife Parvati ( played by Nirupa Roy ) and their son Kanhaiya ( Ratan Kumar ). A local zamindar Thakur Harnam Singh ( played by Murad ) decides to construct a mill on his large parcel of land as he thnks it would bring him profit, but the problem is Shambu's  do bigha zamin lies in the middle of his large land.
